The global automotive industry experienced an 18% drop in company filings mentions of environmental sustainability in Q2 2023 compared with the previous quarter, with the highest share accounted for by Tata Motors with 219% year-on-year increase, according to GlobalData’s analysis of over 421 automotive company filings. Notably, environmental sustainability was one of the most frequently referenced themes in Q2 2023, ranking highest in terms of mentions, ahead of cryptocurrencies and Covid-19, according to GlobalData.

Of the top leading companies in the automotive industry, Tata Motors had the greatest increase in references for environmental sustainability in Q2 2023, compared with the previous quarter. GlobalData identified 690 environmental sustainability-related sentences in the company's filings - 4% of all sentences - and an increase of 219% in Q2 2023 compared with Q2 2022. Suzuki Motor’s mentions of environmental sustainability rose by 28250% to 567 and Geely Automobile’s by 12% to 460 and General Motors’s by 34% to 437 and LKQ’s by 90% to 331.

GlobalData’s Company Filings Analytics also applies sentiment weight to reference sentences, based on whether the sentences are positive, negative, or neutral. Starting at 100 in 2020, an index over 100 is more positive. The overall index for environmental sustainability in Q2 2023 was 115.
