Notably, Sales and Related Occupations jobs accounted for a 19% share of the North American auto industry’s total new job postings in Q1 2023, drop 22% over the prior quarter.

Sales and Related Occupations drive auto hiring activity

Sales and Related Occupations, with a share of 19% new job postings, was the occupation with the greatest hiring activity in the North American auto industry in Q1 2023 , ahead of Transportation and Material Moving Occupations with a 15% share of new job postings.

The other prominent roles included Installation, Maintenance, and Repair Occupations with a 15% share in Q1 2023, Management Occupations with a 6% share and Architecture and Engineering Occupations with a 5% share of new job postings.

Top five companies accounted for 44% of hiring activity

Advance Auto Parts posted 25,583 jobs in Q1 2023 and registered a growth of 100% over the previous quarter, followed by Monro with 8,699 jobs and a 7% drop. Tesla, with 6,585 jobs, and O'Reilly Automotive, with 5,917 jobs, recorded an 85% rise and a 67% drop, respectively, while Bridgestone recorded a 28% decline with a 4,864 new job postings during Q1 2023.

Regional analysis of hiring in the North American auto industry, Q1 2023

The US held the leading share of the North American auto hiring activity with a 95.16% share, a 13% decrease over Q4 2022. Canada was next with 2.68%, four-percentage-point down over the previous quarter.
